Join Ana in making a set of hand-built ceramic mugs! This class is for the beginner potter or those with some previous knowledge. We will learn how to roll out a slab of clay, compress, and cut pieces of clay using templates.

What to Expect:
Even using templates, there will be plenty of room for origination and creative risk-taking with exciting possibilities! We will also learn how to apply glaze over-top our leather hard clay bodies and the many different ways one can approach glazing: sgraffito, all-over patterning, ombre etc. Bring a friend along and enjoy the process together. This class is about getting our hands dirty, having fun through the process and making something beautiful.

Over the course of two consecutive Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 9pm, you'll embark on an immersive journey into the art of ceramic hand building. Each session will begin with a brief introduction to the techniques and concepts you'll be exploring that day, ensuring you're well-prepared to dive into the creative process. You'll start by rolling out slabs of clay, a foundational skill that forms the basis of your mug-making endeavor. With expert guidance, you'll learn how to manipulate the clay, cut precise pieces using templates, and assemble them into mug shapes of your own design. Throughout the workshop, you'll receive personalized instruction and feedback to help you refine your techniques and bring your creative vision to life. Expect a supportive and collaborative atmosphere where you'll have the opportunity to share ideas, troubleshoot challenges, and celebrate each other's progress. By the end of the workshop, you'll not only have crafted your own set of unique ceramic mugs but also gained confidence in your ability to express yourself through the medium of clay.

Skills You'll Acquire:

  • Precisely cut and seamlessly join clay pieces to construct mug forms.
  • Proficiently roll out clay slabs and shape them into mugs using slab-building techniques.
  • Explore various glazing techniques to add unique finishes and textures.
  • Learn proper clay handling and care techniques.
  • Cultivate creative problem-solving and adaptability through experimentation.
